Welcome SUMB Drumline and auditioners,
Enclosed with this letter is a list of each section’s audition requirements, an exercise packet, the Percussive Arts Society International Drum Rudiments, and several cadences.
We will meet at 1:30pm on August 17th inside the Dome for a brief meeting. Auditions for VETERANS of the drumline will begin on Wednesday, August 17th at 1:45pm inside the equipment room of the CarrierDome. ROOKIE auditions are to follow.
Look forthe Audition Requirements located in the Drumline Audition Packet for the specifics of each instrument. Auditions include excerpts from three of our cadences: Flash Gordon Henderson, Double Beat 2004 and Street Time.
THEY ARE TO BE PERFORMED BY MEMORY. NO EXCEPTIONS!!
Be prepared to perform them at soft, medium, and loud dynamics at the marked tempos. Mark time, left foot lead. Pay particular attention to the timing of the hands and feet as you mark time.
Be prepared to play the remaining exercises, cadences, and rudiments. Even though they are NOT a part of the audition, we play this repertoire every day at rehearsal. The SU drumline performs all of our rep by memory. So get started NOW!
Our 2011 basic repertoire consists of:
Exercises: Eight-Seven, Accents, and Roaming 16th note
Cadences: Flash Gordon Henderson, Double Beat 2004, Street Time, Run On (Pre-Game Cadence), and Down the Field (SU Fight Song).
In addition, the drumline also learns and memorizes six different field shows, plenty of stands tunes, and other cadences. Needless to say, there is a lot of material.
Enter at the Stadium Control entrance in the southwest corner of the Carrier Dome. Bring your practice pads, sticks/mallets, metronome, 3-ring binder with plenty of plastic sleeves, and a pencil. Come prepared and ready to drum.
Please email me with any questions at jadekane@syr.edu.
I look forward to meeting you,
