The Syracuse University
Orchestra offers a unique experience in music making at the highest level.
The
Director of Orchestral Studies at S.U. is Dr. James Tapia. While
symphony orchestras are associated in the popular imagination with music
that is old and "classic," our orchestra is committed to stylistic
diversity, with a repertoire that spans four centuries.
Our concerts routinely
pair works of Beethoven and Brahms with twentieth - century masterpieces,
and new works by students and faculty. in addition, the group regularly
collaborates with school choral ensembles and with gifted soloists, many
of whom are student winners of our annual concerto competition.
Four concerts and
several reading sessions are scheduled each year.
