SUMB Spring Scrimmage
Everyone
is welcome to be a part of the 2006 SUMB Spring Scrimmage - Saturday,
April 29 at 9:00 am in the Dome - to check out this year’s
Drum Major candidates. If you are trying out for Leadership, this
event is required for you; all candidates for all Leadership positions
will be required to attend the scrimmage in the Dome on April
29. Even if you are not a leadership candidate, the information
provided in this email is important, so please be sure to read
it and make note of any deadlines that apply to you.
RETURNING
VETS: Please go to the FORMS
section and fill out a Returning Vet Form for 2006. Please remember
that this is DIFFERENT than the form in the Orange Peel! Thanks!
Leadership Selection Process
Applications
for leadership positions are available in the Band Office. Completed
forms are due by March 31, so pick yours up at your earliest convenience!
While you're in the office to get your application, sign up for
an interview with Mr. Mertz. Interviews will be held in 206 Crouse
College. Please Note: You must reapply for all
positions even if you were a member of the Leadership in 2005.

Drum
Major Application and Audition Procedures
In
addition to submitting an application and completing an interview
with Mr. Mertz, candidates for drum major will have:
- Conducting
Audition No. 1 in the Dome (each candidate will conduct the
SUMB Pep Band). This will take place on Sat. April 29 and is
required for all Leadership candidates.
- Fundamental
Teaching (each candidate will teach a marching fundamental beginning
at 11:00 am on April 29 at a location TBA.
- Conducting
Audition No. 2 in Crouse (each candidate will conduct Down the
Field, Alma Mater, and a piece from one of our ’05 half-time
shows). There will also be an interview. This will begin at
1:00 pm on April 29.
Scores
and recordings will be issued once your application has been submitted.

Pizza
Party
The
Pizza Party will be held Sunday, April 30 @ 4 pm behind Crouse
College rain or shine. Leadership positions for 2006 will be announced
at the party! Everyone is welcome to attend.
In
doubt about whether or not to try out for Leadership? Do it! If
you are selected, you’ll have a chance to make a meaningful
impact upon the operation of the SUMB.
Have
a wonderful spring break and don’t forget to watch for the
Orange Peel this summer. REMEMBER: Everyone needs to return the
form in the Orange Peel by June 30! Make sure to let us know if
you're not going to be home this summer so we can get the Orange
Peel to you wherever you are!
